Kevin opened Connor's bedroom door so that he & Sam could play together in Sam's room. This is what followed:

Connor - "Hello Sam"

Sam - "Hello Connor. Did you have a nice sleep?"

Connor - "Yes, I am"

Sam - "No Connor, it's yes I did"!

We were in fits!

The boys are at such lovely ages - they're really interacting with each other ... they've started fighting over toys which is funny but annoying - we keep hearing "It's mine" "No, it's mine" but hey ho! They get on really well on the whole!

 Comments

I did it!

Well, I did it - I handed my notice in at work and from 1st August I will be totally self-employed! I'm nervous but excited at the same time! My employers were really good about it and it's all very amicable which is grand ... mind you, I've been replaced already so they're not that gutted!!!!!

The business is really busy at the moment ... by my standards! That means that I'm working every evening fter either being at work during the day or looking after the boys! I'm sooooo tired! This morning I was at an early meeting again - a 5.30 start! That's the last of them for a wee while though which is great! One more in August and then that'll be me! I find that it knocks me out for the day!

We're going ahead with the baking too ... our application went to Falkirk Council a couple of weeks ago and once the kitchen is approved that's us! I've already got a farmshop interested in taking some muffins and scones which is brilliant!

 Comments

Curly hair!

Are all boys challenges?????? Or are all children a challenge?

We recently had to get doors made for the front of our TV cabinet because the boys were obsessed with the video and DVD player etc. Even buying guard things to put on the front of them made no difference ... I couldn't get the covers off but the boys could swipe them off in no time!

Anyway, now the temptation has been taken away ... or has it! This morning Connor (who's now 20 months) got stuck ... where? ... the wee monkey had climbed up onto the unit and was stuck as he tried to climb in behind the TV!

Then, a wee while later I caught him switching on the socket in the wall ... he'd also taken the child-proof cover off it and was sticking his fingers in it! What to do? I've told him off, I've put him in the naughty buggy, I've smacked his hand and still he goes back to it! Kevin's going to sort it tonight so that the plug isn't live but what about the rest of the house ... so far that's the only one he's going for but I don't want my boy to have curly hair!!!!!

 Comments

Will I won't I?

What to do?

It's been months since I last wrote here. I've meant to many times but just haven't! Life gets so busy eh!

So, I'm sitting here with a letter of resignation in front of me. Tonight is supposed to be deciding night about handing in my notice at work. Will I won't I? I don't know! Justamizon is really picking up and I'm getting enough work to justify leaving work ... I think! Just lately Kevin & I have seemed more like ships in the night ... he arrives home from work and I hand the boys over and rush off to visit a prospective client or a networking meeting or to discuss our new business idea with an adviser (yes, we're mad, as if one business wasn't enough!).

The letter's written, it's not signed yet and I'm not in work until Monday. What to do? We both feel that it's right for me to hand in my notice but it's scary! What if all my work dries up? I have to trust that it'll all work out ... it will!

I'm excited about the new business though ... totally different track from admin but hey, it's a hobby and something I enjoy! Baking! We've often thought about doing something in the food line but never in a million years did I think it'd be me starting it and not Kevin! The plan is that I start the business doing my baking and then at some point he'll join in working more on the catering side of things! That's the plan anyway! I've got one possible outlet for the muffins so far ... but I've not tried anywhere else yet ... one step at a time!

Oh, any for anyone who remembers me ... we're all fine. The boys are doing grand and are just lovely! Cheeky monkeys, full of fun and keeping me on my toes! Love 'em!

 Comments

Proud Mummy!

Thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post ... I feel guilty that I post so rarely!

Anyway, just had to share a very proud Mummy post!

This is our 5th attempt at potty-training with Sam and today for the first time ever we had a totally accident free day! I'm so proud of my wee lad!

Not only that, we had another assessment with the HV this morning and she feels that Sam's come on in leaps and bound since starting nursery! He's a wee star!

 Comments

Update on Sam

Well, things seem to be moving for Sam now!

We visited the doctor this morning to ask for a referral for a hearing test. The doctor had already spoken with our HV which was great so she knew the situation. She asked Kevin & I questions, asked Sam some questions and generally just spent some time observing Sam. She felt (as do Kevin & I and the HV) that there is no issue with Sam's hearing. Therefore, rather than refer him for one specific thing which doesn't seem to be an issue, she is referring Sam to PREFCAT (the Pre-Five Community Assessment Team) - Sam will then be assessed more widely and if he has any problems then hopefully they will be highlighted and we can move forward from there.

I really don't know whether there are some issues with Sam or not ... of course I hope not, but if there are then I want them identified ... I don't want Sam to go to school with a label as a disruptive child ... if he has to have a label then it needs to be the right one!

Keep praying for us!

 Comments

Back again!

How many times have I said that? I keep neglecting my blog these days!

A wee update!

I've started a job ... it's two days a week 10.30-4.30 secretarial work. It's going fine, everyone is really nice but a month in and I'm still finding it such a struggle to leave my boys. There's not one part of me that feels it's right except that we've got no choice!

Kevin's doing grand ... working away as usual. He's applied for a few jobs but nothing has happened yet.

We've both started doing a discipleship course at Church. We're both paired with friends and try to meet fortnightly - we started last Thursday. It has to be said that Morna & I spent loads of our time fleeing off at tangents. We really enjoyed the study though and I'm sure it'll help us grow closer to God.

Sam's doing well - he's at nursery now and loving it. Sadly, some of the worries that I've had about Sam at times seem to be causing a problem. The nursery are trying to help and have implemented an Individual Education Plan ... we'll see how that goes before taking things any further. We've also arranged to see the doctor about getting a hearing test done so that can be ruled out - I'm pretty sure that Sam has no problems hearing ... he can hear the word "chocolate" whispered from 200 yards! We'll see how it goes. Sam's a really lovely wee boy ... he's full of funny phrases and often makes me giggle ... I've started keeping a notebook and jotting down funny things that he says/does! (I'm doing the same for Connor too)

Connor's coming on in leaps and bounds. He's very adventurous and often I have my heart in my mouth! I've gone into rooms before now to see him sitting on the windowsill having had to jump from the table to get to it What a boy! He's beginning to say more now and runs about the house saying "There you are!" to everything!

I'm so unbelievably proud of my boys!

 Comments

Missed me?

Not been here for ages! Sorry!

Nothing much to report. I guess I'm finding it tough these days now that Connor's running about so much ... he's a feisty wee soul (don't know where he gets that from) and Sam's just as hyper as ever! They're lovely, lovely boys but, yes, they certainly keep me on my toes.

Is it just me or is it very discouraging when people keep telling you how hard work it is having children? Or even worse, when people with older children happily tell you "It'll get worse you know"! Sometimes I don't feel a very Christian response when people say that to me!

Sam's still at playgroup but he's finishing at the end of the month and then in January he's off to nursery five afternoons a week ... he seems so young! He's still not potty trained but I'm sure that'll happen when he's good and ready! He's definitely ready for nursery - playgroup isn't stimulating him and I've had to admit (and found it very hard to admit) that he needs more than I can give him too ... he needs the structure of nursery school. At the moment it's an afternoon place but probably after the summer it'll become a morning place. My baby will be 3 in less than two weeks ... it's hard to believe that it's possible!

As for Connor - well, he's just grand. He's nearly 14 months now full of mischief. "No" means nothing to Connor, he just looks you right in the eye, grins and carries on ... cute but defiant! He's starting to get a few words now and melts my heart every time I give him a biscuit or something and he says "ank oo"!

The boys get on really well together although, as you'd expect, they fight too ... it's quite funny to see them wrestling though ... Connor may be wee but he puts up a good fight!

Kevin's doing fine. He bruised his ribs playing football a few weeks ago so was wandering about in agony for a while but he's much better now. His Dad and Step-Mum came home from Uganda ... they live just round the corner from us (when they're here) and it's lovely to have them home again.

As for me ... well, I'm still working as Justamizon (I've tweaked my website ... ... what do you think?) and I've managed to get myself a job working 12 hours a week ... Mondays & Wednesdays.

Well, I've rambled on - hope you'll forgive me for ducking out for so long ... I'm going to spend some time catching up on blogs now!

 Comments

Christmas Fayre

Well, the Fayre went OK today - not brilliantly but I made a profit even though it was a small one. It was a tiring day - although it wasn't so busy there's lots of hanging around and stuff to get on with ... I guess I shouldn't be tired but I am!

Spent this evening sorting out stock and updating stocklists and putting in an order. I'm organising a party two weeks today so that should be good ... it's just a few friends so should be nice and relaxed!

Kevin's back to work tomorrow ... it's been nice having him home for the past couple of days ... even though they've been so busy!

 Comments

Connor's birthday ...

was such a busy day!

My Mum had organised a Phoenix party this morning so by 9.00 me & Connor were at her house sorting out stuff (well, I was sorting, Connor was eating soil out of the plant!) and setting out sample cards and whatnot!

The party went well and Connor showed off like anything ... no shortage of smiles from him today which was lovely!

Kevin & Sam came & collected us at lunchtime and the four of us went off to Burger King for lunch which was lovely. Then at 4.30 my parents and another family friend came round for Connor's birthday tea. We just had a wee snacky tea and then a lovely chocolate cake (made by Mum and iced by Kevin) with a candle on it! Connor was a wee star and even started singing when we sang Happy Birthday to him!

My boys were both spoiled today as Sam got given some presents too - Connor got some Bob the Builder Duplo (so did Sam!), a steering wheel thingy from ELC (here's the link cos I can't describe it well ... http://www.elc.co.uk/toy-32346?&category=none&age=12-24&price=0-20&els=none&filter=filter&pg_age_id=3 - it's great, we've all enjoyed playing with it!), books, bath toys, clothes, a shape sorter and all sorts! He was so chuffed though with all the balloons we'd decorated the room with ... typical eh ... what a monkey!

Both the boys were in bed early tonight tired out ... Kevin & I are busy now sorting out all the cards and stock for the Christmas Fayre at Sam's playgroup ... can't wait until Friday night when I can get a rest!

Still, I'm happy ... I've got my three lovely boys!

No photos ... I took one or two this morning but nothing great ... must try and get some tomorrow!

 Comments

Happy birthday

Wow, one year ago today I was gazing in awe and love at my newborn baby boy! Connor Andrew was born at 1.44am and by 10 we were home from hospital!

What a difference a year makes eh! Then Connor was a helpless wee baby who couldn't do much more than cry, feed, wee and poo (oh, and be sick ... can't forget that)! Now, he's a determined wee lad who walks all over the place and lets his personality shine at every opportunity! Oh, how I love him!

Early morning this morning ... opened Connor's presents (lots of new toys to play with, yay!) and cards, played with the balloons and now eating breakfast!

Busy day for me ... I've got a Phoenix party this morning and then Connor's birthday tea this afternoon. Kevin's got the day off so we'll have some quality family time with our two boys this afternoon.

Must make sure I take photos today ... on Sam's first birthday I forgot to take any at all!!!!!

What a gift my baby boys are ... I guess neither of them are really babies any more but they are such a blessing to Kevin & I and I'm so grateful to God for them.

He's escaped out of the hall at the toddler group in our Church so many times that a new handle was put on the door that the wee lad won't be able to reach until he's about 10!

However, I've often commented to Kevin that Connor's going to be easier ... he seems to be more of a Mummy's boy and I've been kidding myself that he'll not be such a runner!

Hmmmmph ... after walking for just one week he's started trying to run and today ... well, today I left Connor sitting strapped into his booster seat at the dining table eating his toast while I went through the door into the kitchen to sort the dishes. I wasn't long, honestly, but when I got back into the room my wee darling was sitting on the table, one leg nonchalently swinging over the edge ... still eating his toast!

One of those situations where you have to look twice because it just seems unreal and, even after the event, you keep wondering if you imagined it!!!!

He looked so happy and content sitting there that I wanted to take a picture ... the camera wasn't handy though and I wasn't about to risk it!

However, this morning he started talking about the number "oval" - funny, I'd never thought of teaching him zero ... I guess counting usually starts at one!

At least number zero makes more sense than number white ... that's what he used to ask for all the time before!

Off to Edinburgh today for a portrait session with Venture Photography. Should be fun!

One friend came from Glasgow and we had lunch together ... she had her baby boy with her ... he's nearly 13 weeks old and just gorgeous ... I last saw him the day he was born!

Another friend called in too ... she's got a little girl a couple of months younger than Sam and also a wee boy who's 11 weeks old!

The poor wee girl ... she was a bit out-numbered ... 4 boys!

Sam wasn't keen on the babies at all ... he spent the whole time playing in the dining room out of the way ... it's such a shame because he loves Kirsty so much (my friend from Glasgow) and got all excited when he saw her getting out of her car. Mind you, when she came in Ethan was crying and Sam gets really upset when anyone cries (a bit embarrassing in Tescos when he starts yelling "stop crying" at any crying children!) ... he's a sensitive wee soul really ... and so lovely!

Connor's walking is coming on in leaps and bounds ... he's so funny ... he's started trying to run and looks hilarious!

Here's Connor after his first taste of a bourbon biscuit ... judging by the look on his face I don't think he was too impressed with the mess! This was taken about two months ago ... I've just never got round to downloading it from my phone!

My boys - these pics were taken last Thursday before I went off to Northern Ireland. The boys chose to sit at the front door for me ... were they hinting?

On Monday Connor had his first attempt at drawing ... he enjoyed himself although spent most of the time torn between scribbling or having a good old chomp on the crayon!

Lastly - Sam's approach to potty-training ... should have realised that things weren't going to go well when he put his wellies on! Still, don't you think he looks a bit like Christopher Robin?

Still not sure how keen Sam is on the whole thing but he's willing to sit on his potty so that's a start! Maybe today will be even better!

Connor's proving a bit of a distraction in the whole potty-training lark - yesterday morning I got Sam all ready to sit on his potty, turned round to see Connor tootling out of the door with it in hand ... he'd swiped it, the wee monkey!

Boys are both fine and doing grand.

The car ... well, we're still waiting to find out about the car but it does look like it's a gonner! Kevin's taken my car to work today so I've to get the bus into town this afternoon ... that's always an experience with a buggy but nevermind! I need to get into town, it's Connor's birthday next week and we've still not bought him a present yet!

 Comments

One of those days!

Hmm, I can't say today has ranked as one I'll look back on fondly although there's every chance I'll look back on today and have a giggle at some point!

Potty training - oh dear, it's not going well! We've had one success but that's possibly only because I taped the potty to Sam's backside and stuck him on it for two hours (only joking, honest!). I really don't know if Sam's ready but I'll try for at least one more day before we decide what to do! Will be suite ever recover? I'm so, so glad I've got laminate floors!

Connor has been taking a great interest in the potty training it has to be said ... I got Sam ready to sit on his potty and turned round to see Connor beetling out of the door with the potty in hand! That's no help in an emergency son!

Cars - LOL, Kevin & I have been talking for some time about getting rid of the Citroen and just keeping the Mondeo - he'd have the car three days a week for going to work and I'd have it two, probably the days that Sam's at playgroup at the moment. We've hummed and hawed about it and then kept putting it off. The car's ancient, it's done 140k and looks like a dilapidated wreck. Amazingly when we got it MOT'd a couple of weeks ago it passed and needed nothing done ... we were shocked. So, bearing all that in mind Kevin filled the car up before setting off home from work this evening ... all very well except that he filled a diesel car with petrol! So, unless I'm very much mistaken (and I could just be being negative here!) we've really done it this time and the decision about becoming a one car family is out of our hands!!!!

Methinks a chippie tea is in order by way of comfort food!

 Comments

Catching up!

My - it's been ages since I was here. Why am I so bad at writing lately? I've no idea!

Now, what's been happening. Well, it was 19th September I last logged in - since then Kevin's been to Spain for (nearly) a week playing golf to celebrate his brother-in-law's 40th birthday, I've been to Northern Ireland for two nights to see my cousin and her gorgeous 12 week old son - he's so lovely, almost makes me broody! Apart from that life has been tootling along as usual. Sam's loving playgroup and getting on really well there. Connor's now walking which is great news ... he'll be one next week and has been managing 3 steps at a time for a good few weeks but now he's really turned the corner and is walking about all over the place! I'm so proud of my boys!

Lunch-time today was the start of potty-training! I've been putting it off and making excuses that Sam's not ready ... to be honest, I'm not sure if he is or not! I've been nervous about potty-training since Sam was born although I really don't know what the big deal is! Ok, so today hasn't been a great success but it was a start ... so far we've had four misses and no targets! I've bought in a stash of wee chocolates as rewards for Sam when he manages to get to his potty or the toilet in time ... maybe Supernanny wouldn't be keen on the bribery part of it all but I'm not going to tell her!

No playgroup this week which is partly why I chose now to potty-train ... it's half-term from school. We've nothing planned for the week either ... I wanted to keep it free to concentrate on the job in hand ... a few walks to the park is enough for just now!

 Comments

Washing day blues!

Not really! Anyway, what's washing day? There's washing to be done every day!

Yesterday I did four huge loads of washing ... sheets and clothes and towels and whatnot. Anyway, I got the sheets dried so that was fine but the rest? Ach, it was nicely drying and I went out with the boys ... then it started to rain like it was never going to stop ... soaked, all of it!

Today I've put the freshly rinsed washing back out hoping that it will dry in the gale that's blowing here! I've just looked out at the back garden and Sam's running round the whirlygig with a Frube clutched precariously in his hand ... too near my clean washing for my liking! Ah well, it's easily washed again!

 Comments

Why are Mondays so tiring?

I always, always end Mondays feeling like it should be Friday! Why????

It's been a good day - the boys have been lovely as usual! Sam was at playgroup this morning ... I was on catering duty there so it was a chance to watch my wee boy at play! He's so happy there. Most of the other children tend to hang around their parents if they're on duty ... not Sam ... he'd give me a wee glance now and again but didn't come too close, I think, in case I took him home! The only time he paid me much attention was at snack time when he thought he'd maybe wangle an extra snack if he cuddled into me!

Mum kept Connor for me this morning ... he was as good as gold and gave Mum loads of big smiles and showed off how clever he is at standing now! He's getting more and more confident and has started taking steps much more steadily and sedately rather than that kind of rush before falling flat on his face! I'm sure he'll be walking properly by the time Kevin gets home from Spain (not that he's even gone yet!).

Determined to have an early night tonight ... I'm so tired that sitting at traffic lights today I was struggling to keep my eyes open! Kevin's on an early in the morning which means the boys will wake earlier ... they seem to have sensors that wake them up as soon as either of us gets out of bed!

So, I'm spending some time getting ready for my first "card party" on Wednesday night! I'm so nervous but I'm sure it'll be fine ... it's mostly folk that I know well that are coming and most of them have seen the catalogues already! Should be fun! I've still a long way to go until I break even but I'll get there!

Right, that's Kevin home with the shopping so I'd better go ... lots of baking to get done!

 Comments

Oh poo!

Not written anything for ages. I've so much that I could have written but somehow each day ended before I got the chance to write!

So, a quick wee update ... Sam's loving playgroup, he goes two mornings a week and apart from his adventure on the second day when he escaped, he's done really well! Connor's so near walking it's really exciting ... he got a pair of cruisers yesterday and is very proud of them ... he stands in the middle of the floor looking at them!

Kevin & I are fine ... tired but fine. We had our first night without the boys on Friday night ... they went & stayed with my parents and behaved so well (well, except that Sam emptied a chest of drawers when he should have been sleeping!). We went out for a lovely meal together (to make up for not getting out at our anniversary) and then took a fit of the head-staggers and decided to move swap bedrooms with Connor! I think it was midnight before we got sorted out. So, Kevin & I are now in a bedroom with lovely Winnie the Pooh wallpaper ... think I need to do a spot of decorating, yay!

Ah, now the "oh poo" title ... both the boys went to sleep really quickly tonight which was lovely ... except that when Kevin checked on Sam he was all snuggled up in bed looking so lovely peaceful cuddled in under his duvet ... his pyjamas were lying on the floor beside him ... alongside his dirty nappy!!!!! Eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww! We had to wake up our gorgeous, dirty, sleeping boy ... wash him ... change the sheets on his bed and sellotape a nappy onto him (OK, I'm exaggerating with the sellotape bit, tempting though it was!). Methinks that potty-training is looming!

 Comments

There's an escapee!

Sam's second day of playgroup today!!! He started last Wednesday and seemed really at home so I left him for a wee while! Today however, I just took him to playgroup and then went home with Connor ... it started at 9.30 and I was home by 9.35!

After we left and I got Connor settled into his bed I started getting guilt pangs ... would a good mother just leave her child at playgroup when he's only started ... would he be OK (he's a really sociable, laid-back wee lad) ... etc etc!

At 11 I gathered Connor out of his cot and made my way back to collect Sam. When I arrived he was standing wailing at the door because everyone was going into a different room to sing songs ... for some reason singing songs has a bad reaction with Sam and generally he throws himself onto the floor sobbing!!! I don't know what it is with singing because my lovely wee boy spends most of his day singing and Kevin & I have always sung with the boys since they were born (maybe that's my clue!!).

Also, I found out that the wee monkey had escaped from playgroup and got outside with two of the other children (both girls, what a flirt). Apparently they'd escaped through a safety gate that hadn't been shut. I'm so thankful to God that the children were caught before they got too far. To be honest, I don't know how far they got nor how long they were away before they were missed but I'd rather not know, it'd maybe only panic me more!

I'm not annoyed with Sam - life's one big adventure to him and he saw the open gate and wondered what was through it! I'm not annoyed with the playleader/manager ... the parents have all been told to keep the gate shut and yet someone left it open. But, I am so, so shaken by it!

Sam's next at playgroup on Wednesday and I'm going to HAVE to leave him or I'll end up getting in such a state about it. I think I'll just go for a wee while and make sure that I'm back in plenty of time ... I don't want to get neurotic about it!

Sadly, in all the mayhem of the escapee I never found out what Sam did at playgroup ... he had no pictures for me to see but was nicely covered in red paint so I'm thinking there may have been some painting done! He seemed to really enjoy it though (except the singing!).

So, am I a bad mother? I'm not sure now! If I'd not left my wee boy he'd not have escaped!

He keeps getting up and shouting down the stairs to us or, even worse, going into Connor's room and waking him up too!!

I was out tonight at Church and when I got home Sam had been making a right racket and having a real carry on so Kevin had told him to stay in his room. We went up a few moments ago to check on him!

He'd pulled the spare cot mattress (why do I need a spare mattress???) from under his bed and dug the changing mat out from somewhere!!! Poor wee soul ... he was lying half on the mattress with his head on the floor ... surely he wasn't comfortable!

Ach, he's lovely!

To celebrate, I created a montage of piccies of our wedding and the boys ... bit hesitant to share it as it contains piccies of my big, bare, pregnant tummy but here goes!

Us Mizons

Connor this time!

Late this afternoon Connor decided to develop a high temp and get a rashy tummy and go a bit sleepy on me! I gave him Calpol and put him to bed thinking he'd be fine! Nope! By the time Kevin got home he was a really unhappy wee boy so we phoned NHS24 (who were great) and because of his symptoms (and by this stage he was kind of breathing funny as well) we were referred to the out of hours doctor at Stirling hospital.

We dumped Sam with a friend and dashed through to Stirling. By the time we arrived Connor was picking up a wee bit but still rashy. We saw the biggest numpty of a doctor that I've ever met! He sounded Skandinavian and obviously had little experience of children - he didn't start well by looking at Connor and saying "So, he's got a cold"!!! Erm, no!

He then got really cross with Connor because he wouldn't sit still for Dr Donutsson to look in his ears or stick a stupid great lolly stick down his throat ... it makes me gag so what it must be like for a baby that doesn't understand???

He then told us there was nothing wrong with Connor and that we shouldn't give him Calpol or anything unless his temp goes above 39 (it's 39.5) and that we should try and get fluids into him (as if we're not trying already!) and suggested we should try tea and fruit juice!!! Now, I could be wrong but isn't tea bad for babies?

Grrr, I'm so mad. My wee boy is obviously not well - he's upstairs in his bed sleeping but doesn't sound right at all, he's boiling hot and all flushed looking (the rash has died down now though).

I'm beginning to wonder is Sam, me & Connor have all had the same sort of thing and just reacted differently. The doc that examined Sam when he had his flakey thought that his throat looked infected, then I came down with tonsillitis, and then a few times over the weekend I've thought that Connor sounded hoarse! Apparently, according to Dr Donutsson, Connor's throat is fine but I'm not so sure!

Looks like we're in for a long night!!!! Ach, my poor wee boys - I just want them both to be well again!

We decided to make the most of it, it was a lovely day, and go off to Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre in Comrie, Perthshire as a family - Kevin, me, Sam & Connor!

First of all we went to Burger King for lunch. The boys were stars and, as usual, got loads of attention. Sam looked very regal and enjoyed his time as King!On the way to the centre Connor fell asleep ... looking very relaxed don't you think and much more comfortable in his new car seat!

The Wildlife Centre was great - there are loads of animals so I took loads of photos ... bear with me, I'm no great photographer and some of these picture take a bit of deciphering but this diary is for the boys!!!

We saw Wallabies - very shy and very hard to get a decent piccie of,

Skunks - yes really!

Exotic pheasants!!

A hen & her chicks

Brand new baby chicks - not long hatched ... we even saw one wee chick trying to hatch ... the wee beak kept poking it's way out of the shell!

Sleeping racoons

Sleeping wildcats!

Porcupines

Monkeys

Chipmunks

And these wee animals ... they were everywhere living in burrows under the ground ... they were so funny, they would suddenly pop up by our feet as we walked along ... but what are they???

There was a play area too which Sam loved ... he built sandcastles and had great fun!

The boys were both wee stars and really enjoyed looking at all the animals. As a treat they got a new tractor!

It was a lovely day, very warm and good fun!

My uncle had never met either of the boys before so it was nice for them to meet at last. He rather liked the idea of being called Grand Uncle John instead of being known as a Great Uncle! It sounds much "grander" really doesn't it! Sam did well although towards then end of the day he got a bit confused with the Grand Old Duke of York and ended up calling my uncle Grand Duke ... well, doesn't that sound even better!!!

I loved this piccie of my uncle and Sam deep in concentration trying to decide which sticker to put on the page next!

We went to a lovely park in Allonby - the boys had a great time (and I saw a lovely house for sale!!!!!)

Kevin & Sam went for a walk - this was looking down from the flat without the zoom!

With the zoom they were a little nearer!

And the view from the flat!

There aren't many pictures from our time away - one of our friends took some so maybe I'll get more at some point!

Anyway, here is my baby totally hating his first experience of a paddling pool - awww!

And here is my other baby enjoying the paddling pool slightly more! That's an understatment ... he got so carried away that he soaked himself and everyone else. He was wearing a normal nappy and kind of like that Huggies Swimmers advert!!!

We were gutted to miss my cousin's wedding so last Sunday I put the boys into the clothes that they'd have been wearing (Kevin & I couldn't model our clothes as my parents had taken them down to Hemel Hempstead for us as our car was so full!!!).

Anyway, I just love this picture of my two boys! OK, so you can't see their faces but don't they look good!

And both looking so grown up!!!

It's not often I get a picture I like of my and my two boys but I loved this one ... me and my two handsome men! Must get another one of us as a family - I'd hoped to do that at the wedding :-(

Anyway, here's a wee rundown of our time away and what we've been up to!

We had a lovely first few days in the Lake District (actually, we were nearly in Yorkshire ... near Kirkby Stephen if any of you have heard of it!). The house we were staying in was lovely and the group of us were getting on really well. The kids had a great time playing together - there were six of them - the oldest 6, then two at 4, then Sam, then one at 18 months and Connor at 9 months! I'd wondered how we'd manage - 8 adults, 6 children all in a 6 bedroom centre! It worked fine ... Kevin & I had both the boys in with us and apart from a bit of hilarity each evening when we tried to get the boys to bed it was great! Being all in together led to early mornings though ... Connor would wake for his 5.00am sing each morning which, in turn, woke Sam which in turn woke the rest of us! Still, it meant we were up and about to enjoy the beautiful weather and countryside!

On Thursday morning I got up with the boys and was down in the dining room giving them breakfast. It was really early so I was the only one up (why does everyone else have children that sleep longer???). Sam had his milk and cornflakes as usual but was really grumbling about having breakfast at all, I really pushed him to eat it (boy, do I feel guilty now!) and then he threw up, spectacularly, all over the table, himself, the seat and the floor! Fortunately, one of the other blokes had turned up just at the right time so he rushed to my aid with a souffle dish (the only "basin" he could find!!!). I wasn't too bothered as Sam seemed fine then and I thought it was just one of those things. Ever the loving mother I set him down in front of Bob the Builder and carried on feeding Connor. Gradually other folk appeared and at one point I looked through to the living room and Sam was lying on the settee looking really grey. Kevin was up by now (I got him up to deal with Connor while I had the lovely job of cleaning up) and so we sat with Sam on the settee ... he just cuddled into me and felt really hot. Then Kevin took Sam and had him kind of sitting up a wee bit ... when I was looking at Sam I realised that he couldn't see me, his eyes were all wrong was the only way I could describe it ... I rushed into the dining room and dumped Connor with someone and grabbed towels ... just as well, Sam started throwing up everywhere, his eyes started rolling, his lips went blue, his tongue was hanging out and he started drifting in and out of consciousness. One of our friends phoned the health centre in Kirkby Stephen who told us to go to hospital in Penrith (it'd have taken about an hour on those roads!) but Phil (I'm so grateful that he's so firm with people) insisted they see us in Kirkby Stephen as Sam was so ill. Kevin & I bundled into the car with our wee boy and rushed to the doctor. At first the doctors wouldn't rule anything out (even meningitis which really panicked me) but decided that he wasn't dangerously ill. They gave him Calpol and asked us to wait so they could observe him before decided whether to take him to hospital. An hour later Sam was beginning to pick up slightly and was able to look at us but his temperature was still not budging (it wasn't that high but higher than normal ... about 38.5) and we were sent back to the house but reassured we could phone at any time if were even a little worried about him.

So, we went back and just stayed in all day keeping an eye on him. He was really listless most of the day but had wee bursts of the old Sam every now & then - he even managed to do a half-hearted Pingu impression which was lovely!

Kevin & I didn't have a clue what to do. Children pick up so quickly after being unwell that we didn't know whether to just say we weren't going to the wedding or just go for it and hope Sam'd be OK. Pressure was on us ... we didn't want to let my family down so close to the big day but, I'm sure everyone would agree, a child's health in the first priority. However, we decided we'd do the first part of the journey (to Kevin's sister in Preston - just over an hour) on Friday morning, see how Sam got on and then make our decision. Sam screamed for the whole journey apart from 20 minutes when he slept. When we arrived he was hysterical and every time we put him down he ran to the front door trying to get out of the house ... he loves going there usually. He'd also developed a pretty dodgey tummy - poor wee mite.

So, our decision was made and we came home. Typically, as soon as we got home he was loads better and much more himself but I'm far happier to have him home then to be stuck so far away from home in case he got worse again.

I've made a doc's appointment for him tomorrow ... I want this to be on his records although, funnily enough, the health centre in Kirkby Stephen took no notes on us at all ... no name, no address, no medical details, nothing! I phoned them this morning to check and I think they must have realised because they had all the paperwork waiting in case I got in touch.

My wee boy is generally fine now but there are moments when he's just not right ... a bit listless and more cranky than usual.

Kevin's still work until next Monday so we're going to make the most of our week together. We're off back down to Cumbria for the day on Thursday to see my parents who are holidaying there. We're also hoping to visit an animal place that we found ... mind you, as it's tipping with rain now we may just wait and see what the weather is like!

I've got some piccies of the holiday but not many ... after Thursday I couldn't really think straight!

Thanks Em for making the journey here - we loved meeting you all!
